Unseasonable Weather // Less cars on streets in the Year end // Total mileage for the Year It was 47F(8.3C) this morning. Nice and warm plus there were much less cars on the Broadway (I think due to the end of year). It took me only 5 to 6 minutes to the station which is less than half of usual day of commute. Temperature rose in the afternoon, and it was 52F(11C) in the evening. Got off the PATH train at Christopher Street and skated on West Side Path to home. Some parts of streets were pretty wet even there was no rain. It was because it became so warm that the frozen part of street got melted Needed to skate carefully particularly for downhill, because it was difficult to stop when the road surface is wet. After 16:00, there was a traffic block around Times Square because of New Year's Eve count down. It is so easy to predict Times Sq. is packed with tourists, so skating the Path and avoiding Broadway in a day like today was a very clever decision. I met no congestion and arrived home quickly. ----- Total mileage skated for 2004 was 4,179.5 km. ----- :: DATA :: Skates: TR Mag 3 Route: (Morning) B'way, (Evening) West Side Path Mileage: 7.5 km. Weather: Temp. 52F (+11C). Winds 5 mph, Events Overcast, Humidity 56%.

Ice Skating The condition of streets was not favorable for inline skating due to the recent snow - too wet, too much salt, too sandy etc. So, we did ice skating instead. We went to Wallman Rink in Central Park and skated many laps. They reshape ice surface every one hour so ice condition is pretty good. It was my second ice skating and I enjoyed it very much. Ice skating is very similar to inline skating, so I did not have any difficulty from the very first time. I may want to get my own pair of skates, because rental skates are awful. We skated from 20:00 to little before 23:00. Total mileage was 3 miles (4.8km). :: DATA :: Skates: Ice Hockey Skates (Rental) Route: Wollman Rink in Central Park Mileage: 4.8 km. Weather: Temp. 28F (-2C). Winds 4 mph, Events Clear, Humidity 55%.

Finally a Clear Day Finally rain is gone and had a clear day. It is not too cold, not too windy, a great skate day as for a winter day. Winter time is a skate off season for many skaters, but it does not apply to me. I skate no matter what as long as road is not wet. Skated in two sessions, on the West Side Path in the morning and Central Park in the afternoon. Both are so enjoyable especially I loaded new selection of music into my iPod - some have been converted from analog music source to MP3. Total mileage was 15.5 miles (25km). :: DATA :: Skates: TR Mag 3 Route: Canal St. R/T, Central Park Loop et al. Mileage: 25 km. Weather: Temp. 41F (5C). Winds 7 mph, Events Clear, Humidity 55%.

Columbus Day Parade Joined the annual Columbus Day Parade as a part of LOMBARDIA. Met at 47th street off 5th Avenue at 11:30 and waited for about 70 min (cold). Then skated on 5th Avenue with the Lombardia float with 14 skaters and approx. 7 bikers. The entire parade went very slow, so, it was 47th to 69th - only a mile, but took us about one hour to reach the end. Temparature was not too cold but very windy so all skaters needed to be moving - we skated around the float instead of just following. Total mileage was 1 mile (1.6km). :: DATA :: Skates: TR Mag 3 Route: 47th St. to 69th St. on 5th Ave. Mileage: 1.5 km. Weather: Temp. 58F (14.5C). Winds 12.7 mph, Events Clear, Humidity 53%.
