  • Sat July 30:  The 11th Annual Jersey Shore Skate & Bike Ride

    This is a 23-mile inline skate and bike ride along the Jersey Shore, from Bay Head to Long Branch, NJ. The event ends at Max's Famous Hot Dogs Restaurant in Long Branch for lunch, beer and other refreshments. Afterwards, we will also have the opportunity to relax on the beach, which is right near Max's Restaurant.

    Pace: intermediate to advanced.
    Distance: 23 miles.

    Meet at Penn Station at around 8:50am to catch a 9:07am train. Buy a round trip ticket to BAY HEAD from NJ TRANSIT. Ride the train with your fellow skaters. Round trip train ticket is $31.00.

    Skate car-free Bronx River Parkway.

    Pace: intermediate.
    Distance: 13 miles.with 7 miles option to/from the Dam for a picnic.

    Meet at 11:30AM at Bronx River Parkway in front of Westchester County Center a couple blocks from White Plains Station (Metro North Harlem Line).

    Skate starts at 11am and we'll be back around 1:30 for lunch.

    Beach time until the beaches close along with all-day party at my place.

    Pace: the pace at an intermediate level.

    Distance: Approx. 20miles.

    Meet at 11:00AM at Rob Kaskel's House at101-02 Shore Front Parkway.
    Take the A train to broad channel, change to the S train, get off at either Beach 90th or Beach 105th (I'm in between and Beach 98th is closed for repairs).
    Travel Time from Midtown Manhattan is approx 1 hour 22 minutes.

Nice weather expected for the entire Memorial Day weekend.

We're skating to Brooklyn, to check out the harbor views from Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights, and Williamsburg. We'll wind up in Queens at Water Taxi beach for beer, hot dogs, and a taste of the urban beach scene before returning over the Queensboro Bridge. (Alan)

Bayonne Skate.

The skate begins at the Exchange Place PATH stop in Jersey City, and we'll skate through Liberty State Park, over the Bayonne Bridge, and wind up on the Staten Island Ferry. At about the 3/4 mark, we'll stop in Staten Island for pizza at Denino's and/or Italian ices at Ralph's.

Distance: About 22 miles,

ETA: Probably get to the ferry between 3 and 4.
